Mediterranean King Has New Owner + Offers Expanded Menu

Mediterranean King has been in Clifton for almost five years now, serving its tasty blend of Authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Cuisine at 3307 Clifton Ave. for both dine-in and carry-out. Recently the restaurant came under new ownership. It’s very much a family operation, as the new owners and most of the staff are a Syrian family. Also, the Manager and familiar face, Kerry Ann McGrath, has been with Mediterranean King since the beginning, behind the scenes and in front. The restaurant also does a lot of catering, and interested parties should call (513) 221-7222 to arrange the perfect, custom spread for their event. The classic, original menu items customers expect and love remain, but there are some new items as well. One new item is the Cheese Boat (Fatayir bi Jebneh), “a Syrian savory pastry filled with a mix of herbs and cheese inside our handmade dough, baked to golden perfection.” I happened to stroll into the kitchen right after these Cheese Boats were baked, and I think you can tell just by looking at this picture, just how succulent they were.

Another new goodie is the Samboosa, “a savory Cheese or Meat filled dumpling in a handmade flaky, golden shell.”

And what about Qatayaf, which are “light, fluffy pancakes filled with “Ishta”(Cream cooked with half and half & cheese) topped with simple syrup.”

And there’s Fatayar Asafiri, “little fluffy pancakes filled with cream and cheese, topped with crushed pistachio and simple syrup!”

And don’t forget Baklava!

Here’s another dessert dish, Kunafa, “a pastry made of shredded Filo dough, filled with Ricotta Cheese & cream, topped with simple syrup.”

Other new dishes and exciting renovations are on their way, along with, as I said before, the original menu. To find out what else Mediterranean King is cooking up, like and follow their Facebook page. And if you have any questions or want to order carryout, call (513) 221-7222. We’re glad to have Mediterranean King in the neighborhood, cooking delicious, authentic food and offering a calm, peaceful atmosphere. I always found the previous owner and his staff to be warm and welcoming and personable, and I got the exact same vibe when I walked in today and met Hanan, the mother in the family (she’s the woman on the right).

This restaurant has long been a dream of Hanan’s, and one the owners, her family, have made a reality. Mediterranean King encourages everyone to stop in and meet the new family, as they love to welcome and personally chat with patrons. That was also the case with the previous owner, and he searched a long time for the right family to take over the business. Fortunately, he found them.

Meditteranean King Celebrates Its Two-Year Anniversary

003

Mediterranean King recently celebrated its second anniversary, and I suspect that this Middle Eastern restaurant located at 3307 Clifton Avenue will be with us for many years to come. Two years is long enough to become part of the neighborhood, and the friendly service of this business “where everybody knows your name” is one reason Mediterranean King is so popular from people who both live in Clifton or like to visit the neighborhood.

002

The Mediterranean King is very spacious inside, with a dining room that’s open and peaceful, with lots of elbow room. Mediterranean King is located near the corner of Clifton and Dixmyth, on the same side of Clifton Avenue as Bruegger’s Bagels. Hours are Monday thru Thursday noon to 8, Friday 3 to 9, Saturday 12 to 8, and Sunday 5 to 8. The phone number for this dine-in or carry-out restaurant is 513.221.7222. Note, too, that Mediterranean King does extensive catering.

If you just want a quick, cheap bite, or if you want a full meal, the choices are numerous. Buffet hours for Mediterranean King are noon to 3 Monday thru Thursday and also on Saturday.  Also, Mediterranean King has daily specials, all of which highlight food from a different country, including Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and Jordan. So how do you find out what the daily special is? By liking their Facebook page. Although it’s not vegetarian, the restaurant is very vegan friendly.

Earlier I alluded to the friendly, personable nature of the restaurant, and the pictures below of drawings children made while eating there are a case in point. In other words, bring the whole family!

Mediterranean King on Clifton Avenue: Great Food, Great Atmosphere

Mediterranean King is located at 3307 Clifton Ave., which is very near the corner of Clifton and Dixmyth, on the same side of Clifton Avenue as Bruegger’s Bagels. Because the storefront is small and inconspicuous, I was surprised to discover that on the inside the Middle Eastern restaurant was both spacious and attractive, with exotic music that’s just barely audible adding to the atmosphere.

In other words, if you want to sit down and experience a meal in an environment that’s relaxing and aesthetically pleasing, I recommend Mediterranean King. On the other hand, if you’re on the run, Mediterranean King can be counted on to deliver quick and affordable foods that are much tastier than you would expect when you read those adjectives.

I tried their chicken kabob and falafel sandwiches and loved them both. Typically I find falafel way too greasy, but with theirs all I tasted was falafel. They serve a buffet Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm (and Saurday from noon to 3 pm), and on Monday through Friday they also have a special that they announce on their Facebook page. Every day the special highlights food from a different country, including Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Jordan.
